About Steve

Steve has been coaching full-time since 2022 and is a NZPGA Certified Professional with GolfHQ, with a strong client base across the Hibiscus Coast, including Whangaparaoa, Silverdale and Helensville.

He is the Head Professional at Whangaparaoa Golf Club and Lead Coach at Helensville Golf Club, and is also available for coaching by appointment at our GolfHQ Silverdale store.

As a mature golfer himself, Steve understands that every golfer has different physical capabilities and limitations. He has worked alongside local physiotherapists to develop simple, efficient and low-stress golf swings, helping golfers get the most from their game without trying to force their bodies into positions that may not suit them.

A Golf Journey That Helps Him Understand His Students
Steve began playing golf in 1977 at Waitomo Golf Club, where he worked at the course and reached a high level as a junior golfer. After taking an extended break from the game while focusing on family and career, he returned to golf and undertook an extensive period of coaching and training, rebuilding his swing using modern techniques.

Having experienced the process of relearning and rebuilding his own golf swing, Steve understands the challenges golfers face when making changes. This has shaped his approach to coaching, with an emphasis on clear instruction, practical drills and keeping the game as simple as possible.

His previous career in corporate management and training has also influenced his coaching style. Rather than applying one swing model to everyone, Steve works with each golfer's individual ability, goals and learning style.

Coaching for All Golfers
Steve has experience coaching beginners, experienced golfers, international students and juniors, as well as running She Loves Golf and other group coaching programmes.

Whether you're completely new to golf, returning after time away, or looking to improve your existing game, Steve aims to provide a relaxed, enjoyable and supportive learning environment.

His philosophy is simple: make golf easier to understand, easier to play and more enjoyable — whatever your level or aspirations.

Hi Steve & Louie,
Hope you aren't too exhausted from your marathon effort at the Dunes over the last couple of days. Thank you very much, it worked so well for us and hopefully for you as well. I am hearing really positive feedback from all different people - the Juniors just loved the games and though that was so much fun. Some of the ladies are going out again for another game and practising what they have learnt. Another sunny beautiful day down here. Till next time, thank you again. And please thank Linda as well - she was amazing. Regards, Bev

I played for the first time yesterday and wanted to report that I had my happiest round of golf I can remember. Despite the wet, your mental strategies really helped. I finished the game happy and then looked at the score. That hour with you has has resulted in the most significant improvement of my golf I can remember Best of all it was fun. Thank you so much for my enjoyable round of golf Chris

Dear Steve, We would like to sincerely thank you for your amazing support of our annual Tee Off for Hospice Golf Tournament held at the end of February. I am delighted to announce that, with your help, we raised $23,400 from the day! And your pro competition on the 17th raised $383! What a great result and very significant in helping to provide specialist, palliative care for patients and families cared for by Harbour Hospice. We are truly grateful for your support - the success of the day is thanks to you and your generosity. Kindest regards, Liz

Hi Steve, Just wanted to say a massive thank you. That first lesson made a massive difference for me today. Even with my antique driver. Hit straight, true and gave a nice pose. Just need to work more on approach and putting. Obviously keeping up the swing, hit, look, pose.

You gave me a lesson a couple of weeks back and the results have improved. Playing without glasses and straightening my posture has improved the overall game and the bad slice is no where near as BAD!!! Now I just need to be more accurate and stay away from bunkers and water etc but my game is more enjoyable thanks mate.
